Tabla

The name tabla likely comes from tabl, the Arabic word for drum. Table is a pair of twin hand drums from the Indian subcontinent.

Since the 18th century, Tabla has been the principal percussion instrument in Hindustani classical music, where it can be played solo, as accompaniment with other instrument and vocals, and also as a part of larger ensembles.

Beginners:

Learn the right finger positions on tabla with the combination of bols (letters played on tabla) along with taalas and basic Kaidas.


Intermediate:

Learn the variety of Kaidas, Rela, tukda, chakradar gath, peshkash along with the lehera accompaniment.


Advance:

Learn the Vilambit laya theka of taalas like Teentaal, Tilvada, Jhoomra etc and learn to play solo in such rare taalas.
